Disruptor 6-Month Program (2021)

Dear Hard-Working Leader, Parent, Co-Teacher, and/or Biz Owner Striving for Excellence (and soon-to-be Disruptor),

Now that 2020 is over, are you ready to disrupt the old paradigm of White Supremacy Culture and become the leader in your own life?

Are you tired of feeling overwhelmed, overworked?

At the same time, you want to do The Work.

Are you trying your best to get things done? Trying to keep the kids fed, make sure they’re still learning while earning money for yourself and your family?

Do you find yourself avoiding conflict, at work and at home, choosing to be nice above all else? Because let’s be honest, everyone is doing the best they can.

Do you find yourself striving for your dreams, trying to stay healthy and well (especially in the intersecting pandemics of COVID-19, Anti-Black Racism, & Climate Change)? Yet the struggle with perfectionism and to be nice above all else (all the time!) is real.

Do you find yourself having trouble finishing what you start? Even the things you say you want to do?

Are you afraid to make mistakes, not wanting to be a failure, so you find yourself battling procrastination and/or analysis paralysis?

Whether it’s that work project you said you’d finish by the deadline for your client or manager, or that chapter of your novel you’re attempting to revise, or that assignment that needs uploading for your kid, or even choosing healthier foods to eat, it’s easier to take the opposite route to distract, numb, and avoid—falling further and further into a spiral of shame and guilt.

Don’t you agree that it’s time for us to claim a new way?

My Personal Story

Like you, I used to be unaware of the White Supremacist culture we all swim in.

Ever since the thrill of my first all A’s report card, I’ve struggled with perfectionism. From the desire for A+ to being the model minority, perfectionism and pleasing others became the norm. As I began to acknowledge it’s sometimes crippling affect as a young professional, I resolved to the idea that “done is better than perfect” while still battling high expectations of only one right way.

Then in January 2017, my world was shaken when I was introduced to the practices of White Supremacy Culture, and I began to see each practice as a symptom of a larger systemic problem.

And for the first time in my life, I could see how perfectionism, niceness above all else, and performative anti-racism led me to the beliefs that…

  • “Making a mistake” is the same as “BEING a mistake.”
  • Being nice and avoiding conflict keeps folx comfortable yet neglects my ability to feel the full range of my feelings.
  • Saying one is “woke” by simply reading the latest books on race, even claiming to be anti-racist is just the first step to doing the work.
