Falling Back + Social Unplugging: Can You Unplug Yourself?

It’s complicated.

That’s my current relationship with social media.

I see its power.

It’s connected intelligence. #whatiamreading

And it’s hegemony.

A word I do not use lightly.

In stepping away from social sharing* for 31 days, the intention manifested itself. What began as whisper from my intuition and presented itself as a request from my wife to not share that last photo of the day, I decided to take a cure from the universe and fall back. Allow myself to listen to the needs + desires of a breastfeeding, bed-sharing work from home mama of a walking one year.

Needs? Desires?

Caught up on the juxtaposition of these two words?

Well, let’s face it mamas we have them BIG time. Our day-to-day needs. Our kiddos needs. Our significant others’ needs. Desires of our own. Desires for our families. Desires for a fill filling career in alignment with our passions and values with a need for cost-effective flexibility. Desires and needs. A mixture of life blended with hopes, agreements, and expectations. All these help frame our Mama Mindset. The mental framework needed to help us get through the highs and lows of the day-to-day.

Could you unplug yourself from social sharing for 31 days?

If so, what would it look like? If not, cool. We’d love for you to join the dialogue as well with your insights. Please share below in the comments.

Much love. Be love. Beloved.

*Yep, I unplugged from the desire + perceived need to be constantly sharing with my friends, family, and various communities using social networking platforms.

Top 5 Tools for Desire Mapping

As I expand my work to include The Desire Map as a process for Inspiring a Lovelution of Intentional Justice Each Day  I wanted to pause and share the tools that make it possible for the DIYers and soul searchers to dive-deep into self-discovery.

Here are my Top 5 Tools for Desire Mapping and the why behind it:

product1-full-121.  The Desire Map Book:: From the creator herself, Danielle LaPorte:

The Desire Map is a holistic approach to life planning that uses your core desired feelings as the guidance system for your goal setting.

You can grab the beautiful bound copy here. Or prefer to go digital, grab it here.

Now here’s the Mama J. approach to Desire Mapping: an experience of theory meets action that calls participants to explore identity (imagine yourself as a beautiful mosaic) within the context of 5 Life Areas (Livelihood + Lifestyle, Relationship + Society, Body + Wellness, Essence + Spirituality, & Creativity + Learning) to gain the self-awareness of how you can use your cultural capital and emotional intelligence to achieve your dreams. As a result, living each day with intentional justice.

The BONUS audios are a favorite as well. Poetry come to life as spoken word with a twist of compassionate rebellion. With purchase of The Desire Map softcover book or eBook, you will receive an audio bundle of 10 Radio D tracks from the “Light Scanning” contemplation to the “Declaration of Deserving” poem. Your download will be available after checkout. Audio formats you’ll receive: MP3, WAV, AAC

Some days, it’ll resonate; some days, you’ll wonder; 24sometimes, just one sentence can break open your heart, soothe your soul, or hit you like a #Truthbomb. These cards are LUSCIOUS. Each is 4×4, printed on heavy, creamy stock, with gold foil icon embossing. There are 134 cards in each box. (Because 34 is Danielle LaPorte’s favourite number. Seriously.) That’s a Wrap :: 189 days* of Transformational White Space

*As of Sunday, August 30, 2015

Today as I organized my new mama work bag (a Nike duffle I scored at the outlet), I came across a personal artifact that takes me back in time to exactly two years ago (August 30, 2013). The artifact–an After Visit Summary from Kaiser (my then healthcare provider) pertaining to my wife and I’s visit to the infertility doctor*. One of the many intentional steps we took to start our family.

All I can gather myself to write is…WOAH…that’s a mind trip! And a tangible reminder of how far we’ve come in our journey to live our dreams :: one of which was (check!) to expand our family of 2.5 and become mommies.

Fast forward another year later (August 30, 2014) and my educational research position at Mills College ended, a little more than 3.5 months prior to welcoming a healthy baby girl–Jaylin Jackson–earthside. Jaylin, who is now 9.5 months old, arrived on Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at 12:16 pm at our home in Berkeley, CA after a marathon labor of almost 64 hours (more on the birth story coming soon as I have a few versions in the works).

A year later and it’s August 30, 2015! And I’m preparing to birth my next baby, Mama J. Love :: Inspiring a Lovelution Love. Justice. Freedom

Coincidence? Fate? Serendipity? Intentional living or more likely a mixture of them all?

So it’s with courageously bold love that I introduce my latest venture to love…serve…change the world :: Mama J. Love’s Mama’s Musings Blog.

UP NEXT :: What the Heck is a Mama Sabbatical™?!

*As a same-sex married couple in CA, we automatically qualified for infertility services through our healthcare provider. Yes, a privilege that I do not take lightly.
